In continued charity partnership with United Nations-recognised NGO Peace International Foundation, The Executive Centre proudly supported the United Nations Peace Day event and the “Ode to Peace” concert, both of which took place earlier this month in Hong Kong.

The invite-only United Nations Day of Peace Ceremony, held on 20 September, was attended by local and foreign diplomats, officials, dignitaries, representatives from NGOs, principals and student leaders and faith groups. At 12 noon a minute’s silence was observed, followed by the ringing of the Peace Bell and the unfurling of the UN flag, an International Flag Parade, and several keynote speeches. Guests also watched a Peace Video Message from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The ceremony concluded with the debut performance of the Peace International Youth Orchestra.

The UN Peace Day Benefit Concert, “Ode to Peace”, took place at Hong Kong City Hall on 22 September. Showcasing performances by internationally renowned classical artists, outstanding local performers and the Peace International Youth Orchestra, it was well-attended by music-lovers. Performers included concert pianist Colleen Lee, winner of the 2005 International Frederick Chopin Piano Competition, and composer and pianist Esteban Alveres Calvo, who received an award for writing music for the National Peace Program.

Gigi Liu, Corporate Director, Marketing & Communications of The Executive Centre, said, “We have been a charity partner with the Peace International Foundation for several years, and believe that by sponsoring events such as these, we are actively helping to promote the values of peace, harmony, acceptance and respect. As well as wishing to be a good corporate citizen, supporting the Peace Day and the Peace Concert is The Executive Centre’s contribution to creating a better, fairer world through the joy of peace.”

Peace International Foundation is a non-sectarian, non-political and non-profit organization, which advocates promoting peace, freeing the world from suffering and breaking through the barriers of race, religion, cultural differences, politics, and discrimination that so often prevent communities from living in peace and harmony. The Foundation actively supports United Nations peace initiatives through youth-centered education and community involvement.
