Gurgaon is one Delhi’s four satellite cities and is part of the National Capital Region in India. The city was once a collection of villages and farmland before having its fortunes transformed by the arrival of leading car company Maruti Suzuki India Limited, who set up a manufacturing base in the area in 1970.
Fast-forward to the present day and Gurgaon is now an industrial and financial centre with the third highest per capita income in India. In the place of farmland and villages now stands a new city with a booming economy where mega shopping malls, large real estate projects, commercial developments, and skyscrapers are growing around the city and fuelling the economy further. Today, more than 250 of the Fortune 500 companies have a presence in Gurgaon.
Gurgaon is connected to Delhi and internally through the Delhi Metro system. There are also several bus routes, taxis and auto rickshaws available to move around the city.
